MCAS Miramar Air Show Returns To San Diego Skies

San Diego skies are on for action as the Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar Air Show is back on schedule. As this has grown into a tradition in San Diego, the event will showcase spectacular aerial and ground acts, presentation of the military aviation excellence.

The air show whose rehearsals are expected to be held from September 27-29 should attract hundreds of thousands of people from the region and beyond. The event’s theme this year, “Marines in Flight: “75 Years of Air Power,” celebrates the long history of Marine Corps aviation while presenting modern weaponry and flying machines of the twenty first century.

As is typical with this show, the star of the show is of course the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. These elite pilots will showcase their sharpshooting abilities while flying their aircraft in the ceremonial navy blue and gold colored F/A-18 Super Hornets. The speeds with which they set their formation and intricate stunts and moves they perform never cease to marvel.

Apart from the motley of Blue Angels, the show will present multiple performances by other navy as well as civilian aircrafts. The marine corps are also expected to display their Lightening II F-35 B model and shots of vertical landings and aerobatics by the Air force F-22 Raptor.

Colonel Thomas M. Bedell, commanding officer of MCAS Miramar commented on his delight in the event, stating that, The Miramar Air Show is our way of return something to San Diego community for their support throughout the year. It also makes for an ideal opportunity where the public gets an opportunity to witness the prowess of the US Marines and sailors when in the field and engage with the service men and women.

The mobility displays will allow attendees to see different types of aircrafts and military equipment in the close distance. Military helicopters, transport, trainers, fighter aircraft, visitor will be able to walk through these aircraft, meet the crews. This is an additional educational segment of the show; arguably it is exciting for kids who may be interested in aviation or the military, and have a chance to get closer to these fields.

Most of the local hotels, restaurants and other related business are usually busy during the weekend of the event. The access shall be granted with ID and visitors must report a half an hour before the start of the show and be ready to be scanned. Traffic and parking is also being controlled by the base with shuttle services from satellite parking areas now available.

Environmental concerns have also been well addressed by the organizers of the events. Precautions has been taken to reduce the event’s environmental inconsequence such as reuse of cans together with using aircraft that use less fuel as far as possible.

As with many other events observed by people living in San Diego, the MCAS Miramar Air Show is just as much a demonstration of support for the military population that is so essential to the area. The event promotes the relationship between the civilians and the service members; the gap between military and civilian citizen is eliminated.
