
(Westlake Village, Ca) At approximately 5:20pm, a 9-1-1 call was made from a home on Windward Circle to Thousand Oaks Police reporting a white adult male floating face down in the lake located in Westlake Village. Officers were dispatched and found the man. They confirmed that he is deceased.
Watch Commander, Captain Denise Sliva, stated that officers believe this may have been a medical issue or a suicide.
The man has not been identified. At this time, no foul play is suspected.

Based on detective observation and information at the scene, it is believed that this is a suicide. The medical examiner has taken possession of the body but has not released any information. A call was made to the county medical examiner’s office and not immediately returned. No information regarding name, age, or ethnicity has been released about the individual at this time.

In conversation with the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s office, the death has been ruled a suicide. More details to come.
According to Ventura County Sheriff’s office, at 5:20pm a call was made reporting a body floating in the Westlake lake. Deputies arrived and located the body and removed it from the water. They conducted a investigation.
There are no outstanding suspects or threats to the community.
There was information obtained indicating that there may have been a gun. Ventura County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue team, out of Camarillo, deployed the dive team and responded looking for the gun. The gun was located in the water. Tests have not yet been performed to definitively conclude the gun was related to this event.
The victim has been identified but details will not be released to the public. California Government Code 6254 sub-section (F)(1) policy prohibits the release of information in the event of a suicide. Because the death occurred in a public place limited details could be shared where otherwise these would not be shared.

In discussion with Brian Applegate in the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s office, the victim has been identified and the family has been notified. When asked for additional details, Applegate stated that due to the nature of the event being a suicide, details could not be shared. When asked if this act took place in public, Applegate responded that it did not.
