City of Simi Valley to Offer 6-week CERT Academy for Free to Any Resident Over 18

CERT Academy in Simi Valley

(Simi Valley, Ca) Over 60 people have already enrolled in this very popular and important training course in the CERT Academy where you will learn basic response skills, such as extinguishing small fires; light search and rescue; the organizational structure of incident response; and medical do’s & don’ts in a disaster environment.

Using the information learned in the classroom and during hands-on exercises, you’ll discover what supplies you should have in your disaster kit and how to assist your family or workplace following a disaster when professional responders are often not immediately available.

The training is FREE to anyone 18-years or older who lives or works in Simi Valley. The CERT Academy meets one night a week for six-weeks beginning on Thursday, October 11, 2018 and ending on Thursday, November 15, 2018. The curriculum is presented by Ventura County Fire Department personnel and is held in Simi Valley at the City’s Emergency Operation Center. A Disaster Simulation will wrap-up the training on Saturday, November 17, 2018 and is followed by the presentation of certificates of completion to all CERT Graduates at the City Council meeting on Monday, November 19, 2018.
