CLU Women’s Swim & Dive: Hiller, Sanchez Collect Pair of Top Finishes on Senior Day

(Thousand Oaks, Ca) Sophomore diver Abby Hiller and senior sprinter Grace Sanchez both picked up a pair of first place finishes in Saturday’s home finale against the Occidental Tigers. Amongst the morning’s lane victories, the Cal Lutheran Regals honored its four graduating seniors: Alison Farre, Anna Lundsten, Sanchez and Brianna De Vak.

“The women’s team had fantastic swims, today, especially while in the middle of some of the heaviest parts of training,” said head coach Barry Schreifels.

Hiller won the title in both the one-meter and three-meter dive, scoring a 160.20 and 156.25, respectively. De Vak also reached the podium, taking third in the one meter with a 139.60.

On the other end of the pool, Sanchez took first in both the 50-free (24.86) and 100-free (55.24). She later went on to additionally claim second in the 400-freestyle relay alongside junior Emily Sharpe, junior Brianna Baldwin and freshman Brieyana Walton.

Sharpe also picked up three more podium finishes on the afternoon. She opened the morning with a third-place finish in the 200-medley relay (2:00.36), swimming the anchor leg after Lundsten, junior Emily Glass and freshman Jaclyn Holtz. The junior then took second in both mid-distance freestyle races, recording a 2:02.25 in the 200-free and 5:24.93 in the 500-free.

Rounding out the top-three finishers, freshman Avery Conrad tied with Lundsten for a piece of third in the 200-back (2:20.87) and claimed sole possession of third in the 100-back (1:06.12). Joining her, sophomore McKenzie Kelly took second in the 200-butterfly (2:21.27) and Glass took third in the 100-breaststroke (1:11.56).

The Regals continue their season in the tri-meet against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and La Verne on Saturday, February 2. Events kick
off at 10:30 am at the Matt M. Axelrood Pool in Claremont, California.
