Local Candidates Speak to Voters on Facebook Live

Facebook Live Forum

(Ventura County, Ca) In the period leading up to Election 2018, candidates have been enabled to speak spoke to voters on Facebook Live thanks to candidate forums organized by California Lutheran University and The Voice La Voz California newspaper.

Candidates were given 5-7 minute time slots to address a live audience. The videos were made to start and stop for each candidate to allow them to share the video with their followers and supporters.

Candidates opted to use the time in different ways with most choosing to provide a welcome message and then choosing to be interviewed on camera.

Engagements and impressions of the video while live remained in the 100-300 level. However, in just 24 hours, some videos gained over 4,000 impressions.

“The goal of the Facebook Live format was to give working families the ability to hear from a candidate directly,” shared Angela Nardone, the forum host and owner of The Voice La Voz California newspaper. “Since so many people have a hard time making it to a physical forum, this offered the opportunity to the community to hear form candidates on their time.”

With great planning and management, the average forum hosted at a physical location garners between 100 to 200 people. In less than 24 hours, some candidates has 20 times that many people see their video in part or in full.

The Voice La Voz partnered with California Lutheran University, which contributed venues on the Thousand Oaks and Oxnard campuses as well as student support to help organize the event, generate questions, and manage the live forums.

“It was a great success! I think a lot of people were allowed to see candidates speak to them directly that would not have gotten this opportunity otherwise,” shared Nardone.
