November Events for Children and Teens at the Thousand Oaks Library

(Thousand Oaks, Ca) The Thousand Oaks Library has published its November calendar of events for children and teens which includes opportunities for all ages.

Families in the community can enjoy the following upcoming events in November:

CHILDREN

Literary Potatoes — Celebrate Picture Book Month by decorating a potato as your favorite book character! Recommended for school age. This program will take place on Wednesday, November 7, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Newbury Park Library Meeting Room and Monday, November 26, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room.

The Party Puppet Show — The Party Puppet Show is a unique puppet theater program that uses puppets, comedy and music to inspire children’s creativity and imagination. Recommended for ages 4+. Program takes place on Saturday, November 10, from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room and 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. in the Newbury Park Library Meeting Room.

Family Fun Night “Music with Craig Newton”— Families with children ages 0-5 are invited to this special free event to promote early childhood literacy. Participants are invited to dance, clap, and sing along as Craig Newton performs classic children’s songs in this fun and interactive program. Older siblings and family members are welcome to join the fun, too! Program takes place on Thursday, November 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room. In partnership with Conejo Valley Neighborhood for Learning Program.

 

TEENS

Dia De Los Muertos — Celebrate Dia De Los Muertos at the Newbury Park Library on Saturday, November 3, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be crafts, games, and a chance to learn about and celebrate Dia De Los Muertos. At 11:00 a.m. there will be a screening of the movie Coco (2017), and at 2 p.m. there will be a musical performance by California Lutheran University’s Mariachi Band.

 

Homemade Cards and Gifts by Teens Teens grades 6-12 can make homemade cards and gifts to give away for the holidays. Decorate and give away a tote bag. Create various crafts using duct tape, discarded books and other materials. Program will take place on Tuesday, November 20, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room, Wednesday, November 28, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Newbury Park Library Meeting Room, and Tuesday, December 4, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room.

 

Teen Book Discussion — A friendly book discussion will be held on Tuesday, December 18, at the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room. Teens can come discuss their favorite fantasy books and learn about other books they may be interested in. Grades 6-8 from 6 to 6:45 p.m. and Grades 9-12 from 7 to 7:45 p.m.

 

Virtual Reality Oculus Rift — Sign up for a 10-minute session to try out the Virtual Reality Oculus Rift system’s various programs. Ages 13 and older only. Held in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Tech Training Room on Friday, November 16, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
