
(Provo, UT) There appears to be no sunshine in Utah for the Waves.
Yasmine Robinson-Bacote of the Pepperdine women’s basketball team had 22 points in the team’s 83-58 loss to BYU on Thursday. Malia Bambrick was the only other Wave to score ten or more points.
The Waves (7-6, 1-2 WCC) dropped their second West Coast Conference matchup in a row to the Cougars (11-3, 3-0 WCC), who shot better than 50% from the field.
BIG WAVES
· Yasmine Robinson-Bacote (Hillside, N.J./Hillside HS) had 22 points, leading the Waves
· Malia Bambrick (Santa Clarita, Calif./Bishop Alemany HS) had 10 points, shooting 2-3 from beyond the arc, and also added three assists.
· Megan House (San Diego, Calif./J. Serra Catholic HS) had nine points and eight rebounds, which led the team.
GAME RECAP
The Cougars started the game off, scoring the first four points before the Waves got on the board. A 9-0 run for the Cougars gave them a 20-8 lead with two minutes left in the quarter, but the Waves got some buckets from Robinson-Bacote at the end. BYU led 26-16 after one quarter of play. In the second quarter, the Waves played very similarly as they did in the first. After BYU gained a 16-point lead at the end of the half, the Waves finished the second quarter on a 5-0 run, trailing the Cougars 40-29 after one half of basketball.
In the third quarter, the Cougars came out firing, going on an 11-0 run to start the periodand take a 20-point lead. The Waves fought back with an 11-0 run of their own, capped by a three-point shot from Bambrick. Thanks to the run, the Waves trialed 56-44 after three quarter. The fourth quarter was all BYU, as they went on a 12-point run putting the game out of reach, eventually gaining their largest lead of 25 points with the final shot of the game.

The Waves are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 5 as they travel back to Southern California to take on San Diego in San Diego. Tip-Off is scheduled for 2 pm.
