(Sacramento, Ca) California’s most recent voter registration laws require voters to be registered 15 days before election date which translates to October 22, 2018. Ventura County voters can register to vote in a few easy ways.

To register to vote in the state of California, you must meet the following criteria:

To register to vote here in California, you can

  • visit the California Secretary of State website at https://registertovote.ca/gov
  • Individuals may also register by mail and can print the National Mail Voter Registration Form online or by picking one up from the local DMV office or county elections office. You can also request that one be mailed to you by calling the voter hotline at (800)-345-8683.
  • The League of Women Voters of California also has an online registration application that uses the DMV database for collecting California driver license or identification card number, date of birth, and the last four digits of your social security number. The website is https://cavotes.org/vote/how-vote/voter-registration.You will also need to use your full name (including your middle name), your residence address, the last address you were registered to vote, and your language preference. If corresponding information is found, individuals can authorize the election officials’ the use of your DMV signature, which is added electronically after clicking submit at the end of the online application. If the individual does not have a signature on file with the DMV, then information is sent to the county elections office. The voter will need to click “print,” sign the application, and then mail it. The county election official’s office will call the voter when the application is approved or in the event more information is needed to confirm eligibility.

Pre-registrations Begins In California

Individuals in California who are not 18, can now pre-register to vote, as long as they are between 16 and 17 years old. When individuals pre-register to vote and do not have a social security card, driver’s license or identification card, they may have to show a form of identification or proof of residency the first time when voting. Check with county election officials for more information on these requirements.
